Welcome to Urban Village’s Winter roundup, where we’re giving you the latest news about what’s going on in your local community.
As you’ll see from our roundup below, we’re absolutely in love with our local community and all the incredible people in it – here are some of our highlights for this Winter!
Ruskin Park paddling pool renovation gets the go ahead
We’ve smashed our donation objective for the Ruskin Park paddling pool renovation. A massive thanks to the local community for raising over £16,000 in addition to corporate and community fundraising and support from Lambeth and the FORP.
Thanks to your help, much-needed refurbishment works costing around £85,000 in total will begin in the New Year. We look forward to a cleaner, safer and more fun pool! More info about the campaign can be found here.
Will The Cambria be making a comeback?
It’s the question on the lips of every Loughborough Junctionite: will The Cambria pub reopen? It will if the Cambria Society has anything to say about it. With a spacious bar, a beer garden and a room for private functions, the Cambria captured many locals’ hearts – including our Founder Suzanne, who had her wedding reception there in 2010. But a comeback will likely require fundraising help from the local community, so keep an eye out.
Temple Bowling Club: a social club that hits the mark
Planning an upcoming birthday party? With indoor and outdoor courses, Temple Bowling Club offers year-round fun for competitive and absolute newbie bowlers alike. And don’t worry if bowling isn’t your thing: for just £40 a year, you can become a social member and enjoy the bar, snooker, pool or table tennis, all while supporting a local business. Make time for Clockwork this Christmas
One of the oldest art studios in Camberwell, Clockwork Studios should be your first port of call a unique gift this Christmas – and from 10th-12th December, they’ll be hosting a special Open Weekend!
Artist Daisy Perkins had this to say: “Come and see this wonderful collection of artists, designers and creatives IRL, visit their workspaces and learn how they do what they do, chat about art and life, support your local artists and buy anything from small Christmas gifts to large worked up pieces of art.”
Head to the studio’s Instagram @clockworkstudiosse5 to see for yourself, or take a look at their website.
Have you tried: a bike hangar?
Chances are you’ve probably seen one of these semi-cylindrical hangars on the street by now. Provided by cyclehoop, they can store six bikes in half a car parking bay, giving people accessible, robust and safe bike storage near their homes. The scheme is so popular that it can take over a year to secure a space. And we’re glad, as we strongly advise tenants not to store bikes inside our landlord’s properties. What do you think of bike hangars? Should there be more made available? Would you want one outside your home?
Kids at King this Christmas
It’s miserable being a kid at the hospital at Christmas – but for a small amount of money, you can help make a child’s day. We’ve arranged fantastically successful gift collections for King’s College Hospital Charity before
